This band performs their thoughtful original music that will make yu get up and dance  Trainwreck Revival is  a rather motley looking group of dudes whose influences range from Dylan to TOOL....however where we lack in polish ....we make up for in good old fashion musicianship. We are dedicated to following through on our dream of making quality music with quality messages that can help make this world a better place. It starts  with a commitment.. a commitment to ourselves....and most importantly a commitment to others by not settling to make mediocre music.  Providing quality music you cant help but move to.  With that, we hope to see you at the shows...!!..!. Absynth Quintet (Click link to go to website)
–July 9th 2009, 7:00-9:30pm

Original Old Time Blue Grass music from Humboldt County
One of the most rapidly rising jamgrass bands in the country, the Absynth Quintet melds the familiar and the avant-gard with a unique and provocative palette of tone and texture. This is streetcorner swing with a sense of humor, bluegrass with footstomping danceability, intertwined with playful forays into the depths of sophisticated musical experimentation. The synergy of these seemingly divergent styles ends up sounding something like Yonder Mountain String Band meets Phish... with a little bit of firelit gypsy caravan folk thrown in for good measure. The Eugene Weekly places the sound “somewhere along the spectrum of acoustic-improvisational-gypsy-jazz...plucky and tight à la David Grisman” with “a dash of Eastern European exoticism that puts you in a smoky, understated hash bar kind of mood”.  2008 saw the Absynth Quintet break onto the national scene with the release of Indigo Shoes, their first full length studio album, recorded in Humboldt county at the band’s studio, The Sonic Dimple.  Jazzmando.com called the album “fierce acoustic energy that never betrays a carefully crafted sophistication.”  And Gratefulweb.net immediately placed the group in their Band of the Month slot after hearing only a few tracks.  While Indigo Shoes showcases the band’s chops in a studio environment, their 2007 live release Kevlar Mariachi Pants offers a glimpse into the honed improvisational skills the group has cultivated over 4 years of touring.  The Arcata Eye said “...listening to Kevlar Mariachi Pants is akin to being served an exotic meal (or mind altering beverage) one could never hope to replicate at home. You have to go out for this kind of stuff. Delicious”.

The World Music Festival Presents
Joe Craven (Click link to go to website)

An Interactive Evening of Discovery, Rhythm and Motion
–July 16th 2009, 7:00-9:30pm

Joe Craven is a madman with anything that has strings attached; violin, mandolin, tin can, bedpan, cookie tin, tenor guitar, mouth bow, banjo, berimbau, balalaika, boot ‘n lace plus a world of percussion instruments including animal bones, squeeze toys, cake pans, waste cans, umbrella stands, martini shakers and; Himself. Educator, former museum curator, visual artist, actor/storyteller, festival emcee and former 17-year vet for mandolinist David Grisman, Joe has recorded and played with folks ranging from jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli to Grateful Dead Guitarist Jerry Garcia to The Persuasions.
More a re-composer and recycler of music as object and idea, Joe believes in stretching the boundaries of musical style while paying tribute to and helping forward evolving musical traditions. His own wildly varied recordings are testimonies to this folk music philosophy.
Don’t throw it away - redefine it as a musical tool - teach it to a child - leave it as a gift.” Joe is not just an entertaining musician with a penchant for the mischievous, he is a teacher and a student all at once, and will draw you into his performance by including you as though you’re part of the show itself. Joe is always looking for the next expression or breath or object to make music with. His gift for gab is unprecedented and his musical knowledge impressive. And Craven’s openness and expression of gratitude for the gifts he’s been given make it all the more fun for him to share it with his audience. No matter whom he’s connecting with; a community workshop in Costa Rica, a university lecture demonstration in California, or on stage in front of thousands of school kids in Scotland, he’s at home and loving every minute...

TMT puts on a high-energy, danceable, fun show while still focusing on songwriting, harmonies, and melody. Things are ramping up after a successful release of their new album “Riverstone”.

The Cowlicks (Click link to go to website)
–July 30th 2009, 7:00-9:30pm

Although they hail from Berkeley, The Cowlicks are more than an urban cowboy band. Together just three years, the alt-country rockers made true on their slogan (“Merle’s going down”) to beat out Haggard and other country veterans to win a California Music Award for their first album, “CWA (Cowboys with Attitude).” It’s been a short, fast ride for The Cowlicks, a band born in Berkeley three years ago and now the owner of a California Music Award for best country/alternative country album of 2004. Novak, the band’s lead singer, songwriter and manager, looks real good ‘ol boy with his beat-up straw hat, pearl-buttoned floral shirt, jeans and $10 used white cowboy boots that he jokes might have belonged to some dead guy. The case for his custom-made mahogany guitar is covered with denim -- the last one in a line made in honor of folksinger Arlo Guthrie. Make no mistake, though. Novak is a journeyman musician who has recorded and toured since he was a kid, tested Manhattan, the Midwest and California and worked in styles from hillbilly to ska to Ventures-style surf guitar to Brian Wilson pop. And now he’s come to the point where he’s ready to get busy with nothing but sweeping his own path. No bar bands, no labels like the major outfit Novak worked for when he was writing and recording surf rock in New York in the late ‘80s. With Novak, one gets the impression that the whisk broom he keeps handy in his spanking-clean camper van is as vital an implement as his guitar. Novak’s musical mind also has an economy to it, which is a useful quality to have in a genre as open-ended as alternative country. The raw materials of alt-country are the twang and whine of American roots music and the jangle of country rock. Musicians combine them in all kinds of ways, including blues, metal and punk. Novak calls his version “heavy western.”

!Akimbo
–August 6th 2009, 7:00-9:00pm

!Akimbo play original world fusion dance and vocal music combining elements of Afro-pop, Latin, Funk, Celtic and Jazz. They put on a highly-energetic and colorful show, and can keep an audience on their feet for hours. !Akimbo has appeared with such names as Laura Love, Kotoja, Jim Page and Holly Near. The seven members of !Akimbo, together for eight years, have captivated audiences at major festivals including SolFest, San Francisco Mardi Gras, The High Sierra Music Festival, California World Music Festival, Sacramento Heritage Festival, Valhalla Arts and Music Festival, Heavenly Valley Brewfest, Whole Earth Festival, and the Reno Calypso Festival. They have been nominated SIX consecutive years for a Sacramento Area Music Award (SAMMIE), and their 3 CD’s have received great reviews from the music press. San Francisco Bay Guardian: ‘ Davis-based !Akimbo expand the definition of world beat from its trademark Afro-Caribbean rhythms into a multicultural jive so dizzying that it exceeds the limitations of one stage.’ !Akimbo blends soukous, Afro-beat, zydeco, reggae, Celtic and rock beats into a refreshing new mix. The result is a richly layered, and by turns hauntingly emotive and irresistibly upbeat type of music that moves your soul while begging your feet to dance.

Purdon's Crossing
–August 13th 2009, 7:00-9:00pm

Purdon's Crossing is a 4-member band consisting of local nurses, teachers, chaplains, and other ne'er-do-wells; we specialize in 3-part harmony vocals, and play a strange, irreverent, eclectic blend of bluegrass, cowboy music, 30's and 40's swing, and originals, with a generous sprinkling of social commentary.  We like to imagine that we play banjo, guitar, keyboards, ukulele, congas, baritone sax and, on our more unfortunate days, accordion.  And we feature the unforgettable Purdon's Crossing Kazoo Choir; for this we ask your forgiveness.  Come on down - this could be amusing. Purdon's Crossing has performed at Penn Valley's Cowboy Christmas, the Democratic Party Barbeque, Election Night at Miner's Foundry, and the fabulous ObamaRama Black and White Ball.   We'll be famous soon.  No, really!
