Held on select Friday evenings beginning the day after Thanksgiving, and each successive Friday through December 18th, Cornish Christmas transforms Mill and Main Streets into a festive marketplace filled with twinkling lights, local artisans, seasonal treats, carolers, and live music. Stroll the beautifully decorated streets, savor hot cider, and revel in the joyful sights and sounds of the holidays — all while honoring the Cornish heritage that helped shape our town during the Gold Rush era.
This free, family-friendly event captures the spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas and welcomes locals and visitors alike to share in the magic. Whether it’s your first time or your favorite annual tradition, Cornish Christmas is the perfect way to celebrate the season in true Grass Valley style.

As snowflakes (real or imagined) drift through the crisp night air, Main Street closes to traffic and welcomes revelers with the glow of Victorian lamplight, the sweet scent of roasted chestnuts, and the melody of carolers dressed in period attire. Strolling musicians and choral groups fill the evening with song, echoing the spirit of the Cornish miners who once brought their rich traditions to this Sierra foothill community.
Local shops stay open late, inviting guests to explore their wares while sipping mulled cider or hot cocoa. Artisans line the streets with handmade gifts and seasonal treasures, and children delight in visits with Santa Claus and old-fashioned fun. Shuttle Route:
- First stop: Fairgrounds (Gate 8)
- Second stop: Pine Creek Shopping Center bus stop in the Raleys parking lot
- Third stop: McKnight Crossing Shopping Center on McKnight on the side of the street by Papa Murphy’s
- Fourth stop: Broad Street Bridge– Union Street (same stop as the Victorian Christmas shuttle)
- Final stop: Return to Tinloy Street Transit Station, Downtown Grass Valley

With a sparkling Christmas tree and a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, this timeless street fair captures the spirit of the season and brings the magic of a traditional Cornish Christmas to life.
